FAQ

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions on roofing. To learn more make sure to get in contact with us on the contact page so that we can further assist you with your concerns.

1

Question:

Answer:

How Long Does a Roofing Project Take?

This depends on the home. While EIS is equipped to begin and complete most residential homes in a single day, the duration can vary depending on the type of roofing material, how many layers of roofing material there are, and of course, the size and style of the home.

2

Question:

Answer:

How Much Does a New Roof Cost?

There are many factors that affect the cost of a roofing project. The best way to determine exactly what a roofing system replacement would cost for your home is to schedule a no obligation assessment with the professionals at E.I.S. We don’t utilize sales people or try gimmicks such as “sign now and save” to pressure you into agreeing to a home improvement project, just straightforward, honest communication and fair prices.

3

Question:

Answer:

I Have a Leak, Does This Mean My Whole Roof is Bad?

Possibly, but not necessarily. I have seen many leaks that were rectified with simply sealing around some flashing or replacing some ridge caps. The only way to tell would be to schedule an assessment.

4

Question:

Answer:

Every Quote I Got is a Different Price, Who Do I Choose?

Exterior Inspection Specialists of course! Kidding, here’s a few things to look for when choosing a contractor for any home improvement. Did they present well? Did they listen to you, and take time to answer your questions? If they didn’t, are you going to assume they’ll take their time to correctly and fairly repair your home? Did they provide their license, proof of insurance, and references? Did they try to really sell you the improvement by offering long term financing, a deal if you sign today, or a “free” upgrade? Really, you should go with whoever you feel is best for your situation and has the proper certifications and insurance coverage, ALWAYS have the contractors insurance agency directly send you their certificate and NEVER sign on the spot.

5

Question:

Answer:

Is My Roof Too Old to be Repaired?

Every roof is different, sometimes a repair is not possible due to brittleness of roofing material, other times it may not be due to the way the shingles are sealed together, the only way to be certain if you need to replace or repair is by setting up an appointment at a time convenient for you.

6

Question:

Answer:

My Roof Has Moss, can it be Cleaned?

Yes it can! However, it is very important not to use a power washer or a brush to physically remove it, this will damage the roofing material. Rather, a specialized solution needs to be carefully applied to the roof to safely kill the organic growth, then it may be rinsed off with a low-pressure hose.

7

Question:

Answer:

My Roof is Only a Few Years Old, why do I Have a Leak?

A few causes of a leak could be poor installation, a material defect, or simply some unseen damage from debris. In this case it is best to have a Certified Roofing Inspector visit your home and determine the cause.

8

Question:

Answer:

Why do I Have Dark Spots on my Roofing Shingles?

Typically, dark areas of shingles are caused by organic growth or areas where the granules that cover the shingle have become removed. Both of these can lead to costly repairs or replacement down the road, the best thing to do is to be proactive and schedule an inspection.

9

Question:

Answer:

I Need a Small Repair Done, Can You Help?

Of course! We won’t turn you away because you have a “small job” that needs to be done, in fact, most of our work is by way of repairs instead of unnecessary replacement!

10

Question:

Answer:

Why Is My Attic So Hot?

A multitude of factors can determine this, from ventilation and insulation, to the material installed on the roof. The best way to discover what is causing it, and what the solution is, would be to schedule an inspection utilizing thermal imaging technology.

11

Question:

Answer:

Can Shingles Be Installed in Winter?

Yes, however, the shingles need to reach a manufacturer specific temperature to properly seal and guard against wind lift and water entry. In most cases, it is best to wait until the warmer months if possible.

12

Question:

Answer:

Can I Have the Snow Removed from My Roof?

Yes, it is key that a qualified, insured contractor do this however. If the incorrect tools or methods are used, your roof could be damaged beyond repair.
